Influential Movie - Remember the Titans

Remember The Titans may be one of the most influential movies ever made. It taught us all about how life used to be and how to come together as a group of people. It is a classic football movie filled with many obstacles and challenges that young kids must go through. These obstacles vary from racism to dealing with death. It is based on a true story that took place in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971. What makes this movie classic is how the players and coaches were able to overcome the issue of segregation and build relationships to form a championship team. Building relationships, overcoming differences, communicating, emotional intelligence, etc. are all interpersonal communication concepts that we see in this amazing movie.
What started all of the need for these things to happen is when the school board announced there will no longer be any form of segregation in schools. The black and white players on the football team had a hard time accepting each other and did not understand the situation and as to why this needed to happen. They did not have very high emotional intelligence or communication of their feelings very well. They did not show how to recognize how they felt about the situation very well. When they did show that they did not express it in a good manner at all It showed early in training camp. After the first fight broke out during training camp in practice, the coaches immediately took dramatic action to resolve the situation by making all of the players share a room with another player of the opposite race. The coaches, even though not happy about the situation, showed emotional intelligence in being able to quickly act in a mature manner to solve the big issue. The coaches did this for the players so they would not only to accept each other as teammates, but also to accept each other as a person. The problem persisted until two of the captains (one black person and one white person), who were also roommates, accepted each other as players.
