Sleepy Hollow - Stage Production

On October 11 2014 (at) 8:00 pm my fiancée, my daughter, and I went to The Roxy Regional Theater in Clarksville, Tennessee to see a performance of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". This adaptation, directed by Roxy Artistic Director John McDonald, is based on the original book. "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" was written by American author Washington Irving. Irving wrote this story while he was living in Birmingham, England. "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" was published in 1820. During the 1820s there were an abundance of events that had taken place, such as the Mount Rainier erupting over Seattle, Monroe was reelected nearly unopposed, and the sinking of the American whale ship Essex of Nantucket by a sperm whale in the southern Pacific Ocean where the survivors were left afloat in three small whaleboats. The sailors eventually found resort, by common consent, to cannibalism in order for some to survive.
This particular stage performance was lively and did not have any pauses throughout the performance. It featured Tommy Winters as Mr. Van Tassel, Cameron Perry as Ichabod Crane, Allie McCaw as Katrina Van Tassel, Leslie Greene as Mrs. Van Tassel, and Michael Spaziani as Brom Bones. "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" recounts frightening events said to have occurred in Sleepy Hollow, New York, during the late eighteenth century. During scenes of suspense and when talking about the headless horsemen, a lightening effect was used to add drama. I was effective, in my opinion. Stick horses were used during the chase scene at the end in which Ichabod, Brom Bones, and the Headless Horseman rode on. The costumes the actors wore helped pull you back to the 1790's when the story took place. Some of the costumes included long dresses, hats, and bloomers. The performance included the actors retelling the story while giving the audience entertainment with live action.
The subject matter of the stage production was something in itself.
