His comedy career has also brought him fame, connections that are valuable, campaigning money from Hollywood. Through all these positives was brought one large negative from his comedy career. His comedy career "produced a trove of controversial jokes and statements that Republicans assume will make him an easy target, as expected" (Green). Most viewed Franken's run for Senate as a joke and when assumed incorrectly things became even more humorous. Many people knew Franken wasn't a serious person and aimed to carry this against him during his run for Senate. In the beginning Franken was aware that people doubt his capabilities due to the fact that he doesn't take this political stuff seriously. His goal by the end is to prove people wrong of their beliefs and make it clear that he has the capabilities to hold a seat in the Senate. .
By the time 2010 has rolled around Franken has proved his "haters" wrong by "spending a lot of time in the Senate chairman's seat-off the air, avoiding jokes, studying the jobs of senator and his new colleagues"(Hirsh). Franken has changed over the years after leaving S.N.L. in order to pursue a career in the political world. He has learned to use his humor only at appropriate times along with presenting himself in respectable manner. Although he does use humor at times during his campaign he makes sure to speak cleanly and not to offend any of his voters. As Franken stated in an interview with Stephan Thompson "If I do a venue where it's only appropriate to be funny and not political, I can do that" (Thompson). Franken has learned over time to become aware of his surroundings and when it is appropriate to use humor and when not to. Franken does a very well job of transforming from a comedian into a respectable man with the capabilities of running for Senate while proving many wrong about himself. .
As time passed he began to grow an urge to be at the center of political events, which grew in him steadily through the years of republican attacks on his political hero, Bill Clinton (Shorto 40).
