My Adoption from Bulgaria


            I always think about weather I am blessed or if I am just lucky. I was adopted from a different country when I was only two. I do not know much about where I came from. I find myself occasionally wondering who my real parents were. My dad could have been a police officer or maybe my mom was a teacher. Where do my looks come from, could I have inherited my mother's eyes or maybe my father's hair color? I sometimes wonder where my biological parents are today; do I really want to know though? .
             I was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, a country surrounded by Romania, Turkey, Greece, Mace and the Black Sea. I was adopted because my mother could not have children, after trying and trying, still no hope. But I am not complaining. I understand why I was adopted, but why in a different country? Well, my dad thought it would be better to adopt in a different country so there would not be any drama later on. Such as if my biological parents wanted to find me and restore custody of me, it would be much more difficult to do so if I was adopted in another country. So that's why I was adopted from Bulgaria, seems logical. .
             It is tragically known that in Bulgaria, the orphanages quit taking care and housing children at the age of thirteen. Thirteen-year-old orphans are put out on the streets and left to fight for their own survival. You would constantly have the fear of being drugged, raped, sold, kidnapped and God only knows what else. Every country has their own customs weather they are good are bad. Alexandria, Louisiana a small city where I was brought to when my parents adopted me. I lived there for fifteen years. Of course, adjusting to school was hard for me. What would you expect from being born into the European lifestyle for two years and then transitioning to a new language and new environment. Of course it was a bit of a culture shock for someone as young as I was.
             I wasn't the only child in my family; I had two other adopted siblings.
