Hayes was born on October 4, 1822 in Ohio. He became the 19th president on the United States. He served in distinguished legal, military and congressional posts, and was governor of Ohio before becoming president. He ran and won a controversial and fiercely election against Samuel Tilden. The Republican Party in Cincinnati nominated him for congress in 1864. He choose not to run, but at the end of the war in 1865 he took his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. .
He was re-elected in 1866, but resigned in 1867 to run for governor of Ohio. After winning and being re-elected in 1869 and towards the end of his second term as governor, he planned on retiring from politics. The Ohio Republican Party had other plans for him nominating him for congress in 1872 which he lost. He moved his family back to Fremont where he practiced law for 3 years before being nominated for governor. In 1875 Hayes was elected governor for the third time.

During the presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes there was an average 6.24% unemployment rate. The national debt during his time was about $1,100,503,706.88. (I couldn't find anything else).
Political Powers.
Rutherford B. Hayes was part of the Republican party. A year after he was elected, the Democratic Party gained control of the Senate. Maintaining their control over the House of Representatives. This changed how bills were passed because the president didn't have a lot presidential power. Five bills were passed to repeal election laws while 2 got around them, a total of seven bills passed. Hayes issued a presidential veto because he thought this was an assault on civil rights. There was enough Republican power to sustain his veto enhancing his power as president. During his time as president there were no amendments passed.
Impact.
Reconstruction ended when Hayes withdrew federal troops from states still under occupation in his first year of office.
Wrote to Rutherford B. Hayes about the grant, letter went unanswered. Sent two more applications to Hayes, on May 1891 Hayes responded to the letter. Also mailed recommendations to Hayes, in April 1892 Slater Fund gave Du Bois gave him $750. ...
