In the Bible, the character, Jacob, first appears Genesis, chapters 25. Jacob is seen as a very manipulative person that seemed like he wanted everything for himself. In Genesis chapter 25:22-28 it says, that when Jacob and Esau were born, Jacob grabbed Esau's ankle to try and keep him from coming out first so he would have the birthright. Esau, being the older brother of the two, grew up to be a skillful hunter and was big and strong. Jacob was then younger brother and was very quiet. Isaac the father of the two loved Esau more because he was fond of the game and did what he wanted to do, but Rebekah loved Jacob more because he was obedient and listened to what people told him to do. Jacob's character is one that creates chaos and drama throughout the story and because of him being devious the other people in the story can't stand it. The other characters in the story were always talking about Jacob and how he was self-concede. Through the whole entire story ambition is one thing that Jacob put in front of everything. .
Jacob and his father's relationship wasn't really the best due to the fact his father is all about the game and Jacob didn't really want to play. His mother on the other hand loved him so much, even more than Esau. Jacob's ambition was something big in his life because his older brother was so high and praised like a king and Jacob who always was to himself was barely received any attention. Esau casted a shadow over Jacob and Jacob also thinks that his father believed that too, so Jacob craved attention and would do anything to one up his brother. Jacob wanted to be the best very badly that one day after his brother came in from the field working, and was very tired he says, I'm about to die when Jacob tells him, only if you sell your birthright, and his brother agrees to the bargain and swears to him it's his. Based off that shows how manipulative and conniving Jacob could be.
