Analysis of Sherlock Holmes

Holmes has an almost unbridle level of observation and deduction that more often than not, leaves him the smartest man in the room. The character of Sherlock Holmes is renowned for his skills of deductive and abductive reasoning, so much so, that the method is now referred to as Holmesian deduction. This method basically involves drawing inferences based on simple tested principles from small but carefully made observations. .
Another key feature of Holmes' character, in specific relation to his genius, is his bravado in showing it off at any available opportunity. On many occasions, Holmes uses his deductive skills to reveal all manners of personal details of the people he encounters. More often than not, Holmes derives an immense sense of smug satisfaction in using his skill to undermine, baffle or disprove the individuals in question. As result, his character is seen by many others as being both arrogant & blunt.
This leads on to the characters second archetype, Holmes's ego. The only other thing Holmes is more renowned for than his genius is his ego. As previously stated, Holmes never misses an opportunity to show off his intelligence and never misses a chance to showboat it, whether it is necessary or not. Although the Sherlock Holmes never actively seeks out fame for any of the incredible cases he manages to solve, he does however always seek admiration for his intelligence. This is most evident with his relationship with John Watson, where as in Watson is always praising Holmes for his amazing skills of deduction and Holmes respond with arrogant sense of pride. However, more often than not, Holmes let's his ego get the best of him. As a result constant arrogant displays of intelligence , many people can find him very difficult to be around. .
This segways into another archetype of the Holmes character. His anti-social behaviour. A common theme in all of Conan Doyle's works of Holmes is his complete disregard and at times disdain, for social norms and behavioural conduct.
