In trying to understand that we are arriving at a tipping point using our climate system, (Wasdell, 2006) talked about analysing feedback dynamics mechanisms in climate change, when an alteration in world temperature causes an event to happen which itself changes world temperature, this is referred to as feedback effect. Feedbacks are categorized between being negative or positive in the sense that if this effect acts in the same way as the original temperature change, it is known to be a destabilising positive feedback (e.g. warming causing more warming) and if it goes the opposite direction, it is a stabilising negative feedback (e.g. warming causing a cooling effect), but if a strong enough positive feedback happens to occur it is said that a climate tipping point has been passed and the temperature will continue to change until the changed condition results to a negative feedback that restabilises the climate. .

In our relationship with the environment, earth's climate is one of the many aspects that tipping point can be related to, as our ecosystem is being talked about and represented as having the power to influence our lives in ways many of us have never before experienced. The constant variation in the global climate is pushing many of our ecosystems towards thresholds of quick irreversible transformation, the approach to such tipping points is noticed by different transformations in the arctic tundra vegetation, widespread desertification of arid lands, and increase in freshwater inputs to the arctic seas.
