Gender Roles in Nigeria

            In Nigeria there are a variety of roles that both men and women are required to accomplish to increase the success rate of their families. Men and women depend on each other to acquire their everyday needs. Without each other a family in Nigeria would slowly deteriorate. Men hold superiority in a household while women are restricted to most of the work at home and play as inferior compared to men; however, both genders act different towards their children. In everyday Nigeria men are required to be superior over their entire household in order to maintain a prosperous family. "The man is always the head of the household. He is regarded as the breadwinner and the ultimate decision maker; every other person is a subject " ("Countries). The tasks of men are vastly cherished because of the level of difficulty they are compared to those of the females. As stated by Omadjohwoefe "Men go for hunting, build houses and meet other survival expectations of the women. Thus, the role men play became not only valued but also prestigious ". Men are the dominant gender within a household of a family, without the roles of men a household would not be able to flourish. .
             Women play huge roles within their household in Nigeria, they tend to do most of the house work to fulfill the needs of their family. "Women are confined to their home compounds, according to Islamic tradition " (The World). When women fulfill the needs of their family at home they find alternative ways to better what they already have fulfilled. As stated in The Worlds encyclopedia "women become limited to child care and home activities for a considerable part of their lives. In order to survive, an infant needs a nursing mother ". Women tend to become physically drained because of all the activities they go through in a day with their confinements at home and all the responsibility with their children. .
             Females tend to be inferior compared to men in Nigeria.
