Short Story - Just Say No


             There was still the demon inside me though. I could not think straight. I put all my attention on trying to get down the stairs. At this moment the demon took over, I thought to myself "What's the point? I won't fall down the stairs and even if I do I won't get hurt ". I felt calm again; I closed my eyes and reached for the banister. I grasped it with what I thought was a firm hold. I then put my foot out and leaned forward. Suddenly my hand slipped, I fell head first down the stairs. I felt my shoulder crash against a step and in a flash I was flat on my back at the bottom of the stairs. Once again the ringing was back in my ears but even louder than last time. There was a sweet taste in my mouth. I lifted my hand to my mouth and wiped my lips. I looked at my hand still dazed from the fall. There was blood running down my forefinger. I had busted my lip on one of the stairs. I was in a war with myself. The drugs were taking over. But then I found out something which would later become a disaster. I sat up resting my upper body on a wall. I tried to get up. I dragged one leg to my chest but when I tried the second I couldn't. I looked down I saw my knee had popped out of its socket. I was like a doll with my leg not glued on straight. My lower leg was at a 90 degree angle to my upper half. I felt nauseous but whether that was because of the demon was a different matter. I tried to put it back into place but as soon as I touched it, it was as if I stabbed it with a red hot poker. I realised how much of a bad place I was in. In an instant I heard a high pitched screaming it enclosed me. It reminded me what I needed to do. It was coming from behind the door round the corner. The prospect terrified me as I didn't know what was through the door, what was with her. I started to crawl round the corner into the next room. I could see the door. It was dark brown. It was lifeless with nothing surrounding it or even near it.
