Application Letter - Leadership

Quite honestly, I thoroughly enjoy when people ask me to describe myself and my experiences. Not because I like to talk about myself or my accomplishments, but rather because most people are surprised at the attributes I acquired at a young age. Characteristics that I assumed would be common in people my age, I am told by others are very extraordinary, making talking about myself an enjoyable experience. I come from a long line of role models and a legacy of leaders in my family and it must have influenced my DNA. Growing up, I was fascinated with stories around our dinner table of many of my families accomplishments. One great grandfather being the founding member of the Chicago Yacht club as well a successful builder, while the other the head of sales at the Continental Can Company. Stories of my grandfathers, one as the Vice President of Sales at Plantronics, and the other the head of Social Security for the State of Missouri. Finally, my father is a Chief Sales and Marketing officer for a software company. .
Most actions that come naturally to me seem to be traits that others aspire to. Among those traits, one of them that I feel I naturally have acquired is leadership. Personally, I believe that leadership has a direct relationship with attitude. So when asked about myself the first thing I would mention would be my positive optimism on working hard. Being a three year varsity wrestler at my high school has taught me life changing lessons on how hard work and persistence can pay off. Theres a famous quote by a wrestling legend named Dan Gable that reads, "Once you've wrestled, everything else in life is easy." Looking into what Gable said, I found it to be completely true for me. No task ever seems too far fetched or too difficult to achieve because I know that with the hard work, persistence, and right attitude that I have acquired, I will get to where I want to be.
