Chemical Element - Zinc

            My element is Zinc (Zn) which is an active element. Zinc today is very useful, its used for many things like stopping iron from rusting; its also good for the human body, it helps us grow but it also gives you side effects if you get to much of it. Zinc is used today for galvanizing, galvanize is used to put on thin coats of zinc on iron or steel to prevent it from rusting. In the 1800s people who built bridges used steal, but hadn't yet discovered about zinc being used for galvanizing, so there bridges lasted for a while but they always rusted because nothing was protecting from rusting and they broke down. Today we use zinc as a major part for buildings that are made out of steel and iron so they can be strong, supportive and not rust and break. Zinc is also used in brass, brass is copper and zinc both mixed in with each other to form material. Zinc is also mixed with other metals to make other materials that are used in cars, furniture, and electrical components (Catherine, Where was Zinc Discovered). Zinc is also a little malleable at 100 degrees Celsius.
             Zinc is also good for plants. it helps them grow but if the plants gets too much or too little of zinc it can affect their reproduction system. For example: peas makes flowers to make more peas but when the flower blooms there would be no seeds for the peas plant to make. Zinc is found in cells that also helps the immune system fight off incoming bacteria and viruses. The human body also relays on zinc to make proteins, DNA, and also helps wounds heal. Zinc is also used in certain medicines and helpful for proper sense and smell (Zinc The Key of Preventing Corrosion). It affects the human bodies reproductive system and can cause babies to have mental or physical problems. If kids don't get enough zinc in their bodies they loose hair. So its important that everybody has just the right amount of zinc in their bodies. Zinc has been around for thousands of years but people haven't know about it because they didn't have the right instruments to discover it.
