The Dawes Severalty Act

            
             The Dawes Severalty Act how we call synonymously General Allotment Act which laid at the heart of the nineteenth century federal American policy broke the Indian reservation lands into parcels and started the process of selling vast of surplus lands to newcomers and White Americans, who took advantage of it. At the beginning of 1887 American congressmen undertook the decision about adopting Dawes Severalty Act. Thus the lands previously given to Indians as a whole tribe were divided into smaller areas and shared between every individual tribe memberi. Opinions on that move of congress widely varied. Many people thought that this act is the only way to assimilate Indian and enroll them into new culture. On the other hand we had people who peremptorily though that it is mission impossible to assimilate Native's, cause they are inferior savages going nowhere but to extinction. Others thought that Indians should be left as separate nations on their own to do what they have been doing for ages. The most powerful were crafters of The Act who were looking for the biggest benefits from the allotment completely ignoring Indian rights thoughii.
             Context.
             Main cause of these changes were rushing development in North America which came out of ended Civil War and strengthened interest in Western migration. The idea of exploitation natural resources, eager of using more farmlands, revelation of gemstones, ultimately opening factories and build transcontinental railroads which helped people to move from East to the West with no such a big fear turned American government to open up hundreds of millions of acres which belonged to Indiansiii. Obviously we have to mention growing population and huge immigration to America during the nineteenth century which fact had to result with accurate politic moves from government side.
