The Music and Poetry of John Frusciante

In conclusion I will go back to the original argument and further argue that poetry and music are directly related after I have given all of the information on the subject.
             How does music relate to poetry? Writer Jon Stallworthy wrote about the topic and how the two are related through the way they are supposed to be heard. Sarah Roodey in a book titled "The English Journal " contributed 4 pages which she titled "Music in Poetry " dedicated to making the connection between different rhythms of music and poetry to one another by using real life examples. Charles I. Glicksberg and Philip Gordon wrote an essay that was also published in "The English Journal"" as well stating that "the poem is the song and the song is the poem "(Glicksberg & Gordon 550). While researching on google scholar I found a book titled The Norton Anthology of Poetry which is a published collection of poems and other pieces of writing which includes many different writers' works, Writer Jon Stallworthy writes an essay in this book titled "Versification " which relates to the topic of music and poetry. Jon Stallworthy states that "A poem is a composition written for performance by the human voice. What your eye sees on the page is the composer's verbal score, waiting for your voice to bring it alive as you read it aloud or hear it in your mind's ear"(Stallworthy 685). His main argument and thesis of his essay is that a poem is equal to song when it is read out loud or heard in your imagination. He also goes on to state that both are originally written compositions which are meant to be heard by the ear. This relates to my topic with John Frusciante, which I will explain in more detail later, but you can read his lyrics off of a piece of paper and get that sense of poetry and when you hear him sing it with music involved it is that more beautiful when you hear the emotion he sings it in. .
             Although I personally believe music can be considered poetry and even with all the information I have given, there are still some that believe otherwise and make some valid points.
