Finding My Inner Artist

In life you have many opportunities to make a decision. The opportunities that come maybe very large or they may be very small but it's the opportunities that you take advantage of that really Shape who you are. That may be deciding between a job, or which sport to play, which team to play for. Me, my life, I've made very big decisions. I would not be where I am today if it weren't for the decision to switch from being an athlete to an artist. Although it was a tough decision it was one of the best that I could've made. It was freshman year and I had already started my first activity in high school. I was lucky enough to have a part in The Miracle Worker at my high school. I fell in love with the people and to the feeling of being on stage. I was still playing baseball at the time and still planned on being a part of the high school team. At the time I thought I was put on Earth for one reason: to play baseball. When I was playing, I felt I was put at the short end of the stick by the players and was actually being bullied by most of them. My mom and my dad could tell that I wasn't myself when I would come home and go straight to my room and just listen to music. While I was in the production of The Miracle Worker, I was informed of the upcoming musical, Anything Goes, a tap dancing musical, that the school would be doing. Because of this, the choreographer, Rachelle Nemec, would begin to offer tap classes at her studio. I began taking tap classes to- hopefully, increase my skills to hopefully get a part in the musical. I began to feel a passion, in which I had never felt before. But the scary part was I loved to dance more than I loved baseball. .
Baseball was my life. As I reflect upon my time as an athlete, there are things I wish I would have done to really maximize my time as a baseball player. You don't realize how engrossed you are until you are removed. I slept, talked, thought, ate, lived, baseball, because that's all I knew.
