A Sociological Portrait

Micro sociology involves the study of people at a more interpersonal level. By looking at the micro perspectives you will be looking at the "smaller picture" so to speak. Discovering certain personal aspects of someones life, learning what makes the individual unique. " The microsystem is the layer closest to the child and contains the structures with which the child has direct contact. The microsystem encompasses the relationships and interactions a child has with his or her immediate surroundings such as family, school, neighborhood, or childcare environments. At the microsystem level, bi-directional influences are strongest and have the greatest impact on the child. However, interactions at outer levels can still impact the inner structures. This core environment stands as the child's venue for initially learning about the world. " (Bronfenbrenner-1979).
Socialization is a term used by sociologist to refer to the lifelong process whereby people are made aware of the behavior that others expect of them as regards the norms, values, and culture of their society. In this paper I will talk about how my life has been affected due to socialization by my gender, race, and social class. As a child my life was very difficult. I never experienced the traditional family. Even though my mother was part of my primary social group I did not learn many positive things from her. My mother wasn't a bad person, but with her unstable mental status and her constant longing to find a man to validate her, turned her into a woman I have strived my entire life not to be. I took many of my life lessons from my grandmother. She told me to never rely on anyone but myself, be a strong, confident, smart, independent, honest person, and that there is nothing in life I couldn't accomplish. She also taught me that I don't need a man to validate myself worth. She taught me to always honor my family and never do anything in the heat of the moment that I wouldn't be proud of in the morning.
