The Alchemist is an adventure that the author Paulo Coelho experienced in his life and now he wants to teach people through the main character, which is Santiago. Santiago is a young shepherd who lives in Spain, went out on his journey to find the treasure of gold and he ended up learning a lot of lessons. Through Santiago's journey, Coelho shows people his lesson to helps them learn the valuable of following their dreams, don't afraid to fail, and they will find their own treasure when they don't give up. The first lesson Coelho wants to teach us is always looking forward and follow your dreams. In the Alchemist, the main idea is all about the importance of following dreams. In order to follow dreams, people have to have a dream. The author said, "When a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream" (Coelho, 22). After Santiago lost his money, he was disappointed. He wanted to give up on the trip to Egypt, and he was about to go back to being a shepherd. Somehow, he heard the voice of the old king told him that no matter what you do, the universe would help you. So he decided stay and seek for another way to his treasure. When people have a dream and they are working really hard for it even though they fail. They should keep it up because some power of the universe will be on their side and help them to achieve what they want. It's true, when one has a dream the universe will help that person reach it, and it was actually happened to me before. When I was in Vietnam, I had a dream that I could go to a good high school, the high school was really hard to get in. I thought I would never get into that high school, but when I was about to give up, I felt that something tried to tell me that why don't you give yourself a chance to try and work hard for it? After that I studied really hard and the good thing was, I got in that tough high school.
