Persuasive Proposal - Self Defense

Do you ever get that feeling at night when you are walking alone, you get a chill down your spine and your whole body begins to tense. Your body senses the danger and your mind runs wild trying to think of what you should do. What if it is nothing? What if it isn't? Would you know what to do in order for you to get away? Many of us don't really take the time to think about such things. If you are placed in a situation which you need to defend yourself guessing your way through it can only be so effective. The University of Akron has plenty of classes to teach students just that, but they are not doing enough to inform us about them, or why it is beneficial for us to take them. Students are dangerously unaware of these things, and it needs to change in order to better ensure their safety on and off campus.
At The University of Akron there are four classes available for students to take during any semester. These classes are worth one credit that can be counted toward their mandatory physical fitness credits needed to graduate. The classes are, Karate, Self-Defense, Tai Chi, and Taekwondo. Each of the classes would give students genuine insurance that if they are attacked they would know what to do. They also have a Kung Fu club students can join. If you do happen to be attacked The University also has things to help you to cope and move on from it. The counseling center, as well as the Rape Crisis Center are both on campus and free to students. On top of all those things they have officers willing to help, and emergency buttons all over campus with a very short response time. With so many wonderful options for their students you would think they would be very proud of all these things, and make them all known to their student body, but that is not something this University has done. They give students tips telling them to always have a buddy to walk with, and to stay alert, meaning to stay off phones and leave ear buds out of ears.
