Long-Term Effects of Positive Parenting

Little work has been conducted that examines the effects of positive parenting. Beckwith et al(1992), Eshel et al(2006) and Landry et al (2008) are some people who have previously worked on a similar problem presented in this paper(Child Development pg.1198-1208). They concluded that, specifically, supportive parenting early in life has been shown to have positive effects on cognitive, behavioral, and psychological development throughout the life span (The Context and Experience of New Mothers pg.98). Sarah Whittle et al (2013) are another group of people who researched on a similar problem as well. Participants that they used were a community sample of 188 adolescents (92 females) recruited from primary schools across metropolitan Melbourne, Australia as part of a larger cohort study. .
The methods they used were having one hundred and sixty three adolescents complete a lab-based family interaction assessment with their mothers at baseline and had adolescent-mothers complete two 20-min interaction tasks that were video recorded and gave self-report questionnaires. They concluded that the frequency of positive maternal behavior during early adolescence was associated with structural development of regions implicated in reward processes. Emotional reactivity and regulation, with some sex differences was also being observed, while maternal aggressive behavior predicted increased growth of the right put amen. (Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience pg. 7-17). Being in positive environments has effects on the development of the adolescent brain. .
             Research Design.
This research is designed to target teenagers and adults which have become successful and are a positive influence to our society. The research is to be conducted from November 16th 2014 to November 30th 2014. The research will have a sample size of 20 participants. The methodology being used is a survey, due to the short time frame given for the research and because of ethical issues.
