Short Story - The Forest

One cold winter day, my friend Janet and I decided to take a little hike along a trail behind her Aunt Suzy's house in Oregon. We had set out intending on staying two nights in her cabin. Off we went, taking our time as we hiked side by side. The path was covered with beautiful colored leaves. It was such an amazing sight watching nature as it lay there in front of us, so wild but so free. It was Janet's idea for us to hike the Oregon trail into the Black Forest for five miles to Lavender Fall's where we would remove our camping gear and sit down to enjoy a wonderful picnic lunch we had prepared. Janet made ham sandwiches, potato salad, cookies and some of Aunt Suzy's famous sweet tea to quench our thirst on this pleasant sunny day in the forest. Up above the clouds were plump and rolling across the blue sky really fast. They moved as if they were going a hundred miles an hour. There were Blue Jay's playing in a tree over head and squirrels running along the branches of the tall oak trees. You could see where the deer had been just before we came through the rocky edge of the trail that lead us to the cabin. We were approaching the scenic cliff it was really an amazing view from up there. The cliff sat a few hundred yards above Black Forest Fall's. We were growing more excited as we grew so close to our destination.
Suddenly, Janet screamed really loud! I looked past her and there was a big black bear along aside her precious baby cubs. The mother bear was being very cautious of us as she circled her cubs. I told Janet to walk slowly away with me and be sure not to fall or trip. If this mama bear comes for us it would clearly maul us before we could get away to safety. I walked with Janet's hand in mine . As we were almost to a safe distance when we heard an alarming crack under our feet. There laid a plastic solo cup that fell from our overnight bag. I heard water running off the trail to the right.
