The Sex Trafficking Crisis

The kidnapped girls are also videotaped in the midst of these sexual acts; there are many different ways media can be shown to the public where it does not look like "rape." The victims are blackmailed with footage and many of them choose to stay silent so these videos are not released or leaked anywhere. The girls are also force-fed drugs or alcohol and end up depending on their 'owner' to constantly provide more for them (Post). Many are coerced into taking, what is popularly known as, date rape drugs so they are physically unable to stop the offender and say no. .
Because these teenagers and girls suffer such traumatic experiences, many victims lose their voice and their will to live; they become desensitized by the world, trying to forget everything that has been done to their bodies. They grow up, knowing only this – how to physically serve others with no emotional attachment. They don't value their lives as something important; they forget how to live and as they get older, becoming more and more engrossed in this illegal underground business. These girls are unable to understand what a "normal" life is supposed to be like and only act in the way they know how, as a sex object.
This is where the moral and legal controversies and issues arise when debating prostitution because many people have the misconception that these people voluntarily sell their bodies for money. Once they are of age, 18, all their actions are blamed on them. People are unyielding in a way where they refuse to reach out to others once they are considered a consenting adult, saying they have the choice and are responsible for their own actions. They do not understand that these victims do not know how to think for themselves, having been brainwashed at a young age. The victims fall into this cycle of falling prey to others, barely making enough to survive. This is because they have been kidnapped at a young age and have been constantly suffering through drug addictions and abuse.
