"Little Shop of Horrors" is a story about a man who finds a strange plant. The man, Seymour, nurses the Venus flytrap back to health with blood. The plant wins Seymour over by giving him everything he wants in life; respect, love, and money. Seymour found his true happiness just in time for it to be gone all at once at the end. Seymour is one of the main characters in the play, and the story revolves around him. In speech class, I learned how people communicate and how to be an effective communicator. While watching the play I seen some examples of the levels of communication, the forms of communication, the forms of artistic expression, and noticed the most and least effective communicator out of the cast. All of these characteristics of communication were expressed during this musical. The first level of communication is the kind that is expressed within oneself, called intrapersonal communication. This form of communication was expressed in the play by one of the character's Audrey. There was this one scene where Audrey was in her night gown headed towards the flower shop on skid row. She was saying to herself that she could not sleep and she was just dying to see Seymour. I knew in that moment she was talking to herself, because of the lighting. The rest of the stage was dark, and the single light focused on her as she spoke. .
Interpersonal communication is a level of communication between two up to a small group of people. In the play there was a scene where people had found out about Audrey II and Seymour was greeted by the trio. The four of them danced across the stage and sung about his success. Another example is when the trio began to sing about living downtown in skid row and the rest of the cast joined in on the song. Each character had their own individual turn in the spotlight, but even though the spotlight was focused on one or two characters at a time they were all having one big conversation in song.
