Our society today seems like one that it is driven by the technology that was put forth by its creators yesterday and the work of white collar men and women. Both of these things do indeed power our world; however, our society could not thrive without the essential work done by the blue collar workers of America. An advertisement produced by Chevy, which introduces the all new 2014 Silverado, portrays their new truck as an the all-American truck for the all-American man. .
The sole focus and target audience of this commercial is a blue collar male. More specifically, it was directed at hard working and family oriented men that work on farms or ranches, encounter difficult terrains, or haul large items consistently. A large truck, particularly the 2014 Silverado, is able to provide this for these type of men. There was a country song, "Strong" by Will Hoge, playing in the background through the whole commercial. The lyrics of this song correlate perfectly with the central message that Chevy was attempting to convey in their advertisement. This song spoke of a man who was hard working, loved the same woman for all of his life, was caring of his children, was polite to everyone who met, and, most importantly, was not just tough but strong. Chevy is trying to sell the idea that if you purchase their new truck, then you will be the man, the all-American man, that is described in the song. And, therefore, you will be able to conquer any physical obstacle put in front of you as long as you have your Chevy Silverado.
The commercial opens with a close up of the front of the truck as man pulls a shed door open, and the natural light hits the front of the truck in a striking manner, which makes the paint glimmer greatly. The shot continues to wrap around the side to show the minute external details that constitute the facade of the truck. Close up shots are also used the show the men's faces who own this truck and the interactions between the truck owner and his wife and kids.
