Marie Curie - An Admirable Explorer


             There are many different contributions made by various explorers throughout the world. One of these explorers is Marie Curie. She is recognized to be a well-known explorer until nowadays due to her scientific achievements in the past and her good personality. .
             Marie Sklodowska Curie was born on November 7th, 1867 in Warsaw, Poland in a poor family with her four siblings. Brought up by her mother, a headmistress at a girl's school, and her father, a professor at math and physics, Marie inherited her parents' scientific ability and expressed this ability at an early age. As a young student, Marie was a very bright child and did well at school. After graduating high school, Marie worked very hard to spend money to help her sisters and to pursue her own dream as becoming a doctor. In 1891, Marie went to Paris to study at the Sorbone - an university where female students could attend. It took a long period of six years, however, before Marie could make her dream comes true and graduate as a doctor. .
             Even though Marie Curie suffered many challenges and difficult times in life, she greatly devoted all her life for the success of chemistry discoveries. In 1894, she met her future husband, a young scientist Pierre Cuire. Both of them had many experiments lead to the founding of two new elements in the periodic table, Polonium and Radium. In 1903, Marie and her husband were awarded a Nobel Prize in Physics for their works in radiation. For that reason, Marie Curie became the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize. Eight years later, in 1911, Marie won a second Nobel Prize on her own for the scientific discovery of two new elements. After that, doctors figured out that her discovery about radiology could help find bullets and other broken bones in wounded soldiers. Moreover, doctors were shocked to find out that radiology could be used to cure cancer diseases. Therefore, in 1932, Marie joined with these doctors in the campaign to fight against cancer.
