King Henry V - A Born Leader

Leadership can be defined as the process in which an individual is able to influence a group of people to attain a common goal. This goal is accomplished through mutual cooperation and unified behavior from all members. There are various theories concluded by psychologists to explain the traits of a leader. Traits determined by researchers such as intelligence, extraversion, openness to experience, general self-efficacy, and conscientiousness were inferred to be already possessed by an individual to make them a good leader. Another theory is that leadership can be attained through a process of learning leadership skills, whereas a third theory suggests that a leader emerges from an ordinary individual after significant events. It is evident that King Henry V, in Shakespeare's King Henry V, becomes a great leader who inspires his troops and brings them to a victory which seemed next to impossible. .
How did King Henry V become such a great leader? Was he destined to this greatness, as his father was a commendable sophisticated politician, or did he grow up and mature to become this prodigy? It is the latter, where Henry is forced to take over the throne and lead the English. In Act I, the Bishop and Archbishop are arguing about Henry's turnover, "The king is full of grace and fair regard And a true lover of the holy church The courses of his youth promised it not The breath no sooner left his father's body But that his wildness, mortified in him, seemed to die too Never was such a sudden scholar made" (I.I.60-70). During his youth before he was crowned King, Henry was known to be wild and reckless. He was a worry to his father while he went to parties and got drunk. But when his father passed away, Harry started behaving and took responsibility. From this significant event, Henry makes sacrifices to ensure the best for his kingdom. He discards his irrational behavior to be a responsible figure for others, which shined in comparison to his old self.
