The Lady - Aung San Suu Kyi

It is hard to become someone you are not, and Michelle Yeoh does a phenomenal job of acting as Suu Kyi. Because, every emotion and movement that Yeoh makes has a purpose. In the movie when the military started to kill the protesters, Yeoh's facial expressions and body language expresses to the audience how scared and worried Suu Kyi was when that happened to her. For instance, Yeoh's body would shake and jump up at the sound of a gunshot. And, Yeoh cried to show sorrow. It is hard to express someone else's emotions because you are not that person. Suu Kyi had to choose between her family and her country. The emotions that Yeoh displays throughout the whole film shows the internal struggles that Suu Kyi face. Also the people who played the extras in the movie acted well too. For example, people would start yelling, screaming, and running in certain scenes to show how chaotic the situation was. The acting is an important aspect of the film because it helps the audience relate and feel the emotions. And, it shows the hard ships that many people faced under the dictatorship of Burma. .
The next reason why this is a good movie is because of the special effects. The special effects contribute to the setting and helps with the acting. For instance, there was a huge explosion that flipped and turned a military vehicle over. The way this explosion was strategically done contributes to the setting because it exhibits how violent and dangerous things got in Burma when Suu Kyi was there. Also it shows the struggle of how trying accomplish change is hard in some cases. Then another scene of Suu Kyi was shot in slow motion because the film makers wanted to capture the emotions and body language of Yeoh. They wanted to make Yeoh acting skills stand out and have the audience focus on her. This way the audience can see and become entranced in the movie. The special effects and acting need to go together because they enhance each other.
