Complex Interweaving in Dry September

Analyze how William Faulkner presents a complex interweaving of racial and sexual relationship in post-bellum America? .
'Dry September' written by William Faulkner is set in Mississippi, in post-bellum America. Post-bellum(1866-1913 is the period in America after Civil War(1861-1865). After Civil war Slavery was abolished from South America, legally. Through taking this background setting for his story, his purpose is to make sure that his readers must get acquainted with the concept of how do South Americans take this political decision of abolishment of slavery and Blacks. Abolishment of slavery which was there in the amendments in the laws though could not amend the thoughts of Americans, which Faulkner has wonderfully displayed in this story. He has deftly woven the story with the threads of power paradigm that domineeringly worked in the post-bellum period. the practical power structure amongst white men -that is made by themselves only - gave them the highest position in it. The notion of "white man's burden" smoothly worked while the slavery was institutionalized, but still worked after the abolishment of slavery because the laws must have changed though but the situation never changed, it could not remove the racial prejudices from the minds of Whites. .
The equation between Whites and Blacks was like "as the 'male' is universal but 'female' is limited so is 'White' is universal but 'Black' is limited" in the world of South America. Therefore, after the supremacy of white man, the who ranks below him is a woman, a white woman, who being sexually subjugated in her White society though, but still holds the power above the black man, this shows that what Faulkner is showing in his story i.e. the interweaving of sexual and racial prejudices, indicate that the two work hand in hand, if either of the two is removed, the structure made by Whites will collapse. After the power holdings of Whites, below them are 'black' man first and then the least on the power paradigm is the 'black' woman.
