The Apostle Paul and Social Media

These 13 "letters" are our primary sources into what Paul tells us about Jesus Christ. Paul communicated to his audience through letters. That is how people communicated through that time. Just imagine if Paul had social media in that day and age. He would be ALL over it for many reasons. First, Paul was very urgent with his messages. He was very intense about evangelism. Paul had something essential for effective evangelism: a God-given burden for those who did not know Jesus Christ. In his case, the burden was for his own people, the Jews. He cared. It burned inside him. I think Paul makes an amazing statement in Romans 9 when he says, "If it were possible, I would give up my hope of eternal life so that others who do not know could come to faith." That's a pretty dramatic statement if you ask me. So naturally, social media would be an amazing platform for Paul to display his message from. From just Facebook alone you can connect with 1.23 billion users. If Paul was so radical about evangelizing, he would have been a social media junkie. If you're looking at social media through the lens of a business or an informational group the way Paul would use social media it would tremendously benefit him. .
The internet has always been social. Especially today when most people get most of their information off social media such as Twitter and Facebook. The tools are new, but communication and interaction are as old as humanity itself. That's why so many essential principles of web communication haven't changed much from the old days of face-to-face. What the internet does change is the pace, scale, and cost of communication. You can send more messages to more people, more quickly and more cheaply, than ever in history. But what you're going to say doesn't change just because you're using more efficient technology. This would dramatically change how Paul communicated. He would be on every social media site spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ more efficiently than what he did through letters.
