Role Transformations in Macbeth

When he states, "she should have died here after Life's but a walking shadow" (5.5.17-28) it is evident that Macbeth is contemplating life and death when he hears the news of Lady Macbeths death and is no more interested. Ultimately, as situations of life change, Macbeth's role as a husband to Lady Macbeth also changes.
Macbeth's role as a leader changes over the course of time as new roles are entitled to him and his desires change. Macbeth starts off as being a loyal and brave leader as he fights for his country and succeeds. As Ross explains; .
"The thane of Cawdor began a dismal conflict:.
Till that Bellona's bride groom, lapp'd in proof, .
             Confronted him with self-companies.
Point against point, rebellious arm' gainst arm .
Curbing his lavish spirit: and, to conclude.
The victory fell on us." (1.2.60-66).
In this, one can see that Macbeth shows great bravery and good leadership as he fights for his country and sets an example for other warriors. Later on, as Macbeth becomes king, he begins to loose concern about the people of Scotland and is only in concern about his powers. As Macduff explains, "New widows howl, new orphans cry, new sorrows/ strike heaven on the face, that it resounds/ As if felt with Scotland,"(4.3.5-7), the situation in Scotland is corrupted as the extreme grasping of power beguiles Macbeth from doing his responsibilities as King. One must always have control, as too much of anything can turn out to be a bad thing. When Malcolm talks about Macbeth, "This Tryant, whose sole name blisters our tongues" (4.3.12) stating that Macbeth has become more of a tryant then of a king as he manipulates and deceive others to become king. Macbeth's actions and decisions change his role as a good and respected leader into a power seeking and careless King. .
Macbeth's friendship circle is very limited and with the friends Macbeth has, his attitudes and role as a friend changes significantly.
