Addiction and Disorder of Trichotillomania

When people think about impulsive disorder, they think about doing something without knowing, or not resisting the urge to do something. It is irrational to say people might make an action without knowing or do something because it makes he or she feel better. Among all mental impulsive disorders, trichotillomania is very rare, but can be caused by personal health issues. Trichotillomania is a condition where a person can not resist the urge to pull out their hair which leads to noticeable hair loss. Because people with trichotillomania physically pull their hair out, many people believe that it is an addiction. In reality, there are actually many facts that prove it is indeed a disorder. .
The meaning of addiction is "a strong and harmful need to regularly have something or do something" (Merriam online). "Some experts think hair pulling is a type of addiction. The more you pull your hair out, the more you want to keep doing it" (Trichotillomania Online). Pulling hair can start by just pulling out hair in class because of frustration, but because someone is frustrated he will pull out their hair. So, it is not something someone does just on a normal basis. But why is it that someone starts pulling hair? Many researchers fall back to it being a mental impulsive disorder. Researchers have also found out that it comes from biological or environmental factors. Neurotransmitters can also be the cause of this compulsive disorder. "If something goes wrong with the way neurotransmitters work, it can cause problems, such as compulsive and repetitive behaviours" (Trichotillomania – Causes online). It all starts in the brain, and eventually becomes harmful when people begin to feel relief out from the act. In this case, pulling hair is caused by either mental problems, environmental, or biological problems. Some people pull their hair by being very well focused.
