Like for example, they both need some form of college, for vets it could be anywhere from 2-14 years. To be a type doctor like a physician you have to do four years of college or at a university to earn a BA or BS degree. After you finish you have to do a residency at a national matching program which is another 3-7 years of training, ending with 1-3 years of additional training to master their field. Also, after a physician is done with school the person still must obtain a l license to practice medicine for their state (American). .
Depending on specialties, the amount of education can be similar. To be a kind of doctor such as a brain surgeon it could take 15 to 20 years of education maybe even longer than that. Schooling to be a veterinarian is similar. A veterinarian student needs 4 years of undergrad at a university or college to get your bachelor's degree. In those 4 years they have to complete their requirements in science including chemistry, biology, microbiology, anatomy and physiology. One difference is that veterinary students also study animal science. Depending on what program you want to do you may have to do math and social sciences. There is also job shadowing and internships where the students experience working in a shelter, animal clinic, or farm which is similar to what people doctors have to do.
After the student finishes college they are going to have to go to veterinary school for another four years. They will do a lot of hands on work working with animals in clinics and doing lab work. The course requirements include animal science, veterinary pharmacology, animal physiology, veterinary epidemiology, systemic pathology, and cardiovascular diseases. Now, depending on what job type or title you want, these courses may or may not apply. In fact to be a vet technician you only need 2-4 years of school. In some programs students will spend time working and learning in a clinic instead of a traditional classroom.
