Earbuds in My Ear

As we make our way to the biggest rivalry in town, I lie here on this torn wrinkly brown leather, with ear buds in my ear, my Letterman jacket just under my head, like a mothers arm holding her baby, and the words you've thrown at me really strike me. "You missed out on a lot just by being a part of this stupid football team." "Am I really the one that's missed a lot." If I hadn't join the team 6 years back, I could only imagine where I would be in life. You are only enjoying your present moment, careless of the fact that you're making your future tougher by the decisions make. If only you could see through the eyes of the person you once were, then you would understand. This isn't grade 6 anymore. A lot has changed; being mister tough guy isn't the guy I see myself as and neither should you. But I guess we're just two different people. If you can't change your lifestyle according to mine, then what makes you think I will literally throw away my life in order to suit your life? I was in Grade 4. Second week into school. You walked into my class. Mrs. Léon, the teacher, made you sit next to me. By the vibes I got from you, you seemed like a good guy. And I was right, you were a good guy. But who would have thought we would become such close friends. I introduced you to my friends but you were the one to make me stand out and be known in the school. You were smarter than the average teenager, and most of all you had a way of talking to everyone. You knew how to get to the heart of every person; maybe that's why you were the first friend to meet my father's standards. You knew how to entertain a crowd. And honestly speaking, if it wasn't for you, Elementary school wouldn't have been the same. .
But as we approached the grade 6 something changed. And even without knowing, I knew. I knew greed hit you. It hit you hard. Your worst enemy, the ego that lives within you, took control over you.
