Structural Characteristic of W. Collins

There is no other literature which would be as equal in simplicity as Greek literature, which is expressed in the poem by means of metaphor:.
             "When holy Freedom died,.
No equal haunt allured thy future feet.".
The Simplicity inspires the poet, he calls her a sister of Truth, once more corresponding to classical ideals. Even the flowers, which are beautiful, ask Simplicity to range their colors.
The classic Simplicity was not so much appreciated in Rome, it was only present during the rein of Augustus, the patron of such poets as Horace and Virgil. After that it disappeared from poetry after the gradual decline of Roman poetry. .
             "But stayed to sing alone.
             To one distinguished throne,.
And turned thy face, and fled her altered land.".
Since then Simplicity left her "shrine" and is only in Love. .
The later poetry is not as perfect as the classic art. Despite the taste with which it was written and the enormous talent it is lacking something until it is inspired by the Simplicity. The "taste" and "genius bless" may give aesthetic pleasure, may be attractive to the eye but only Simplicity can lift the soul.
             "What each, what all supply,.
May court, may charm, our eye;.
Thou, only thou, canst raise the meeting soul!".
Those who want to create a great piece of art should ask for the taste and genius bless. The poet just asks for simplicity, he logs for pastoral poetry. He wants to find "thy temperate vale" meaning Simplicity and create classic pastoral art. There is another apostrophe- "O Nature", Nature here is associated with Simplicity.
The tone of the poem is very emotional, enthusiastic and lofty. The register is high, the vocabulary is refined. There are many devices used in the poem which strengthens its emotional character. Apostrophes make the poem lofty.
