Faith Groups and Political Parties

Many believers of different faith groups underwent harsh punishments which led to some of them immigrating to the United States to seek freedom of religion. This act from England was also practiced in America since America was still under the British. Jefferson's letter to the Baptists was to let them know that the wall was to protect them. Tyrannical government causes conflict in society and that was what was happening in Europe.
In the federalist papers No.10, James Madison stated that "The latent causes of faction are thus sown in the nature of man;.according to the different circumstances of civil society. A zeal for different opinions concerning religion, concerning government, and many other points, as well of speculation as of practice; an attachment to different leaders ambitiously contending for pre-eminence and power;.have, in turn, divided mankind into parties, inflamed them with mutual animosity, and rendered them much more disposed to vex and oppress each other than to co-operate for their common good" (Madison, 1787). What Madison talks about in this statement is the result of a tyrannical system and in order to avoid this, is the requirement of the separation of state and church so that neither have concentrated power. After the establishment of the first amendment "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion", conflict between the different religious groups in America ceased because they now knew that no one group would gain power over the other. .
Although there is a separation of the wall between church and state, if America were to follow God's law rather than man's law, the majority of this conflict that comes about from blending both government and religion, would not exist. It is thought that religion "elevates morality in society" (Edwards, 1741). Morality makes people want to follow laws because it's the "right thing to do".
