Flash forward about a week later when my father had sent my mother and me from Mycenae. I was not sure what the reason was at the time, but it was surely urgent. Little did I know that I traveled to meet my death by the hand of my father. How did I find out? Well my mother learned that my father made up an excuse of setting up my marriage with Achilles, a Greek warrior. The poor man did not even know about this plan and was shocked when my mother had greeted him as his future son-in-law. He was utterly confused as to why my father had done this. Afterwards my mother had approached me furiously and informed me of this plot. I really wanted to confront my father about this shocking and disturbing news. And so I traveled to his campsite to find him around a fire pit. The look on his face could not be any sadder. My heart instantly broke in a million pieces when I found him like that. After some tear wiping, I had finally confronted him.
"Father, please tell me the rumors aren't true. Please tell me that you did not send me here just to kill me," I said while holding back my tears. "Father what did I do to you to deserve all this? I have been a very good girl to you since I was little. Please change your mind!" When I had practically shouted at him, my father instantly broke down. I have never seen him like this. He was the king and rarely showed emotion to anyone, including his own family. I was honestly doubting his love for me before. But when he cried to me, all faith was restored. "My dear Iphigenia," My father had replied. "I do not know what to say. I made a terrible mistake here at Aulis. I accidently killed one of goddess Artemis' favorite deer while hunting for food. And as a punishment, I must sacrifice you in order for her to control the winds in my favor so we can resume our journey to Troy. Know this, you have done nothing to make me hate you, and I cannot believe I was even considering this.
