             In the mid-1900's, the Flushing neighborhood was dominated by mostly white middle income such as Jewish, Irish, Italian, and German ancestry, nonwhites were not welcome in Flushing. In the 1960, 97 percent of the population was non-Hispanic white. The downtown Flushing, especially the blocks that near to subway station and Long Island Railroad station was mostly surrounding by multifamily apartment buildings and single and two-family houses where most middle-income residents were living.
             Although, nowadays Flushing referred as the second Chinatown, yet Flushing is not dominated by only one single ethnic group. Flushing is part of Queens and is bounded by Flushing Meadows–Corona Park to the west, Utopia Parkway to the east, the Long island Expressway to the south, and Willets Point Boulevard to the north. In 1960, Flushing business district had only a few stores and restaurants owned by nonwhites. There were even incidents of whites action attempting to prevent nonwhite families from moving into the area. In the beginning of 1980's, a wave of immigration transformed Flushing into one of the most ethnically diverse communities in Queens. Taiwanese was the first immigration group to arrive and develop Flushing Chinatown due to mostly residents in Chinatown Manhattan were Cantonese and Hong Kong immigrants. Due to Language barrier and poor housing condition in Manhattan Chinatown, Taiwanese decided to settle in Flushing instead. It was known as little Taipei which means Taiwanese immigrants were dominated Flushing during 1980's and other Chinese followed. However, by the turn of the twenty- first century, more and more immigrants came everywhere from Asia moved into Flushing neighborhood. There are also large population of Koreans, Indians and other Asian ethnic groups as well.
