This is why elderly are sometimes viewed as a burden or a financial hardship. However, it's important to remember that the elderly can't control aging and all that comes alone with it. Scientists are puzzled by the aging process and have yet to find a cure for aging, despite many advances in the knowledge of the aging process. Many box office films, books and even songs focus on the thought of eternal youth. The search for the fountain of youth continues, but until then we must focus on the facts. We are all aging and society has been in a state of denial for many years. Rarely do we see the struggle of the elderly. Instead we focus on the strong elderly, riding bikes, going out on dates and skydiving. These images give an illusion of endless youth. For the elderly that are facing some ailments, there seems to be a cure for everything under the sun. Society's views on elderly care has changed drastically. Anne Kingston's article (2014) entitled "Age - old problem" states that refusal to see old age has resulted in a health care system that is woefully unprepared. Fifty years ago we saw a 27-year-old with a single-source illness but today, 60 per cent of hospital users are over 65 and suffer from multifactorial chronic conditions.(par 17) We are nearing a point where elderly issues will create social, financial, and emotional issues that may be difficult to reverse. If we do not change our views and come to terms with the fact that aging is affecting society now, and will have major effects in the near future, we will not succeed in caring for elderly in the coming years and the cost will be immense. Society needs to realize that there is an urgency because the Baby boomers .
