Kisses from Katie and Three Cups of Tea

At eighteen would you be able to leave everything you knew and move to Uganda where you knew only one person and didn't even know the language? Most of us would probably say no. Katie Davis however, make the life changing decision to move to Uganda and help better the lives of a small village. Katie Davis story has touched my heart and I found it so inspiring of what she accomplished. I want my readers to understand better what this book is all about. I also want them to see how the philanthropic themes in Katie's story relates to readings I've read this semester, my personal views, and how it compares Three Cups of Tea.
When Katie Davis was eighteen, she went with her mom to Uganda for a mission trip over winter break. That mission trip changed her life forever. She saw a country tormented by poverty and war and needed her help. A few months later she was later asked to come back and teach kindergarten. Her parents decided to let her go if she promised to return after a year and go to college. During that year she changed children's lives for the best. She taught them English and started a non-profit organization called Amazon Ministries. This organization help Ugandan children develop sponsorships to attend school, get adopted, have medical care, and a chance to be fed. .
After a year she returned to the U.S as promised. But her stay in college didn't last very long. Frederick Beuchner writes, "The place God calls us to is the place where you deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet."(88). Katie Davis claims that "My deepest gladness and the world's deep hunger meet in Uganda. My heart sang in Uganda. Everything in Uganda made me feel alive. Uganda was my home, the place God was calling me, and I had to get back as quickly as possible" (88). When she back to Uganda she picked up right where she left off and ends up adopting 14 daughters.
Her story is so touching to any reader.
