Biography of Edward Hopper

Hopper's wife played a big role in his life. As I read in many sources his wife persuaded him to try watercolors. Hopper met his wife, Josephine Nivison. She was an artist and also a past student of Robert Henri. They met during a summer painting trip in Gloucester, Massachusetts in 1923. At that moment Hopper was 40 years old and Josephine was 2 years younger than him. After knowing each other for a year they got married. They used to do almost everything together and they used to travel a lot, mostly for in painting trips. She was known as a very beautiful woman and when he was painting something with the expression of loveliness, beauty he took his ideas from her as a beautiful woman. So, we can clearly mention that she was the heart of his paintings. She used to play the role of model for all his female figures and she drove with him so good that she automatically became any of the countless personalities he required. Josephine was Hoppers good luck.
Edward Hopper once said that "If you can explain something in words, there will be no reason to paint a picture." (A. Berman, 2007).Allowing his this quote we can make our conclusion. He tried to demonstrate and give details with his paintings about what he wants to say, what is in his mind and as well as what is in his soul. Fas everyone finds their own ways to explain their selves, painting was the easiest way for him to explain than to say something in word or in writing. He did a lot of stunning and famous paintings which drags our attentions. It took took a long time for an idea before he started drawing for each drawing. Always he thinks about for couple months about the new work and then he start worked out in his mind and then he begin to paint. There a lot of public places where hopper spent most of his time like restaurants, theaters, cinemas, hotels and offices, trains and highways that was painted by him. He did his first art exhibition "The Armory Show" when he was 31 years old, and also he sold his first painting at there.
