Overview of Homegrown Terrorism

The following paper explores the phenomenon of home grown terrorism, and what homegrown terrorism is, how it is detected and if it is growing throughout the years. The method of analysis used is literature review. Through literature review it addresses the way secrete agents organize ways to detect terrorism, what methods terrorist use to commit their attempts, and how much it has grown over the years. The research shows that over the years homegrown terrorism is more common than people would think.
             Keywords: homegrown, terrorism .
When you think of terrorism you think of the September 11 attack on the New York Trade Center. The September 11 attack was a form of terrorism similar to that of homegrown terrorism. What is homegrown terrorism in reality? Well according to Rascoff (2010), homegrown terrorism is, "the phenomenon whereby individuals and groups carry out attacks (or attempt to) within their native or adopted country or society" (p.1716-1718). Vidino (2009) also added to that, that "homegrown, focuses less on the individual's place of birth, but rather on where his or her radicalization has taken place" (p.3). That categorizes most of the terrorist under the same column. That gives an opening to many of the people involved in terrorism. Most homegrown terrorism attempt to find an outside contact. They join terrorism groups that are located outside of the location they are going to attempt to harm. Then they provide their contact with information about the place they are at. They do so through social Medias, in which we will cover later on in the article. On the other hand there are other types of terrorist who go by the name of lone wolves. These are the people who act on their own will and power. Either way, they fall under the same category of homegrown terrorism that is because they are residents or citizens of the place they are attacking.
The September 11, 2001 attack was an eye opener to most United States, but terrorism has been present far along before that attack.
