In China, Aung san failed to develop any strong ties with Chinese radical groups. What seemed fortunate at the time was Aung Sun found allies in Japanese forces. However, the tides soon turned against Aung Sun as he was forced to switch his position in the Burma National Army3 to ally the British forces. After helping create the Anti-Fascist People Freedom league (AFPFL) 4 and in turn gaining a seat in parliament, Aung san negotiated Burma's freedom from Britain in 1947. Sadly, a political rival assassinated Aung Sun and six other of his colleagues in April of 1947.5.

After the tragic death of her father, her mother Paw Kyin Kyi also became a political figure and soon after became the ambassador for Burma to Delhi where she lived for a short while6. One can argue that because of what her parents did and represented, the idea of leadership was fostered in Suu Kyi since birth. Suu Kyi leadership style can be described as both people-oriented style of leadership and authentic leadership. The people of Burma see her as their biggest hope for democracy, a chance for the people to rule and to be able to vote for their own rights. They see the time and dedication that has taken away her freedom and very well could have ruined her life but instead she has been determined, for the people of Burma. One can also argue that she falls into. Suu Kyi is a strong leader and possesses almost every leadership trait highlighted in the textbook.
Intelligence- includes having good language, perceptual skills, and reasoning ability (Northouse 22). Aung San Suu Kyi studied politics at Delhi University at the age of 15, and then graduated from Oxford University in 1964 where she studied philosophy, politics, and economics.
Confidence- feeling positive of ones self (Northouse 23). San Su Kyi has been called "Burma's rightful leader" (Pop). Her confidence in her people is reciprocated by outpouring support.
