What does the world say about people's soul? The Dark Night of the Soul gives an abundance of the many different citizens brought into this society. How there are people born into wealth with both parents in the home and turn out corrupt therefore there is no way possible to raise the perfect child. These children grow up and start to create their own beliefs like the two students of Columbine High School, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris who brought weapons to school and killed fifteen innocent people. Miller exemplifies how humiliation can drown the soul. In comparison to Richard Tull and Gwyn Barry, they were college roommates one the very intelligent writer and the other a more relaxed nonchalant writer. The Information by Martin Amis zooms in on these men life at war of who's the better writer. .
According to society, they got older and switched roles, now Gwyn is the brilliant author having a bestseller to go along with his beautiful marriage and Tull is the bitter one of the two, after his college years nothing but failures seem to come his way. If this was a fairy tale there would be a luxurious ending for Tull but that wasn't the case nor was it for Chris McCandless or Alex Supertramp he renamed himself, the adventurer. Miller explains how Jon Krakauer's novel and movie Into the Wild, showcases Chris's devotion for books and how he is living vicariously inside of them. After graduating from college he ventured off on his own across the map, bringing nothing but his journals and books along with him. Unfortunately, his dead body was found inside of a school bus, Alex had horribly died from starvation. This man made was able to make his own way of life through the books he read, "What McCandless is and what becomes of him are, it turns out, intimately connected to the young man's approach to reading – both what he chose to read and how he chose to read it", his interpretation of books had become his reality (Miller 429).
