Cosmetic Surgery - Beauty or Beast?

In literature, attractiveness often indicates the admirable protagonist, while ugliness symbolizes an abominable antagonist. From a young age we are taught, without even realizing it, to prize beauty. As a result, in today's modern world everyone feels pressure to meet society's beauty standards. To do this many go to extremes -plastic surgery - which is unethical and poses many risks. Firstly, plastic surgery is a work in progress and there are physical dangers associated with it. Financially, cosmetic surgery is a poor choice of investment. Although people often claim that plastic surgery has psychological benefits, there are large risks associated with dissatisfaction and potential mental health issues. Finally, cosmetic surgery has a negative impact on society as whole and gives beauty a new meaning. This is why people should not be able to have plastic surgeries for cosmetic reasons, only for reconstructive ones.
The foremost reason for not getting cosmetic surgery is that this procedure is associated with many physical risks and possible dangers. For one, there are many potential side effects of cosmetic surgery, which range from minor to severe. Normal side effects include numbness or tingling in the repaired area as well as nausea and some bleeding. However, patients who are sensitive or have a bad reaction to the chemicals may experience shortness of breath, major blood loss, or a drop in blood pressure (McKenzie, Adam). These side effects pose a moderate threat to health and are not worth it. The possibility of looking or feeling better should not make people blind to their health which they are exposing to threat. In more severe cases, plastic surgery can cause many health problems which may be life-threatening. Undergoing plastic surgery can open doors for bacterial or viral infections and allergic reactions to medications which can result in unwanted scars, irreversible nerve damage, internal bleeding, and potential brain damage (McKenzie, Adam).
