Ray Rice, Hester Prynne and Scandal

As you can see shunning is expressed in different ways and carried out for several different reasons. Shunning is still done today based off of what actions others take. For example, celebrities are judged upon their every move whether it is a positive or a negative action. Because of these actions that are reported to the world around them, many people may shun a celebrity for what they have done in our society today. An example of such shunning could be focused on Ray Rice, a famous football player on the Baltimore Ravens committed domestic violence on his now wife. (it was his fiancee at the time of occurrence) .
Ray Rice, a twenty seven year old who is a star NFL running back punched his fiancee Janay Palmer, a twenty six year old on February 15th causing her to be knocked out unconsious in an elevator in Atlantic City. It was known at the time that the two had gotten into a fight at the Revel Casino though details of the altercation were not clear. The "minor physical altercation" that Rice's attorney described appeared much more serious than that after footage emerged Via TMZ of what was allegedly Rice dragging Palmer's limp body from an elevator by her shoulders. For his penance, Rice was handed a two-game suspension by the NFL that many considered absurdly mild. However, the video previously discussed that was surfaced by TMZ caused NFL to "beef" up its domestic violence policy which led to the Ravens releasing Rice and the NFL suspending him indefinitely. This action done by this celebrity caused him to be shunned around the world by fans, other celebrities, people he knew or ordinary people who heard about the news of this incident which was a very appropriate reaction considering what he did was horrible. Rice spoke on May 23 for the first time since being arrested following an altercation with his then-fiancee, now-wife Janay Rice Speaking at a news conference, Rice apologized for "the situation my wife and I were in," and promised reporters that he is "working every day to be a father, a better husband and a better role model.
