             The way that people interpret illnesses like tuberculosis and cancer are very different. Many individuals like to hide what illness they have because they think that they will be looked at differently, however, there is no difference with them and other individuals without an illness. In the film Nosferatu, this is seen when the girl in the film begins to react oddly towards Nosferatu himself. It was seen that mostly at night she almost became possessed by Nosferatu and would follow his commands without knowing what she is doing. When her husband realizes that she is acting oddly he does not think anything of it and puts her back in her bed to rest. Undoubtedly something is wrong with her but he is noticing that she is suffering from something. This shows that many individuals are blinded to illnesses unless they are told that someone has an illness. This is when people start to judge others and insert negative metaphors towards the illness. This can also be shown in the film Dark Victory, when the doctor realized that there was a problem with Bette Davis and she had an illness that would soon end her life, he did not want to tell her the outcome of the situation. This is because he knew how she would react and that she would be fearful of what she had. This relates to the metaphor that people attach to the concept of an illness. The concept of illness being a metaphor has changed throughout language. The illness of cancer is now being described as an invasion and "illness is a species of invasion, and indeed is often carried by soldiers" (Sontag 48). This shows that there are various ways that individuals see the concept of illness. .
