Antigone and Creon

             In Antigone, there were two characters that I thought gave meaning to their lives. Antigone showed how much she cared for her family when she put her life on the line in order to give her brother a proper burial. At that point it is seen that she wont let anything stop her from achieving what she wants. On the other hand, Creon at the same time took for granted everything he had in his life like his family and his throne. Never for one second did Creon take the time to cherish and love all he had until it was too late. I feel that both Antigone and Creon show different attitudes throughout the story that makes them feel like their lives are more meaningful and beneficial. I"m going to prove that Antigone's stubborn and strong-willed attitude and her antagonistic world view remains with her throughout everything that happens and that Creon's attitude changes from being relentless to swallowing his pride and doing what is right for society, while his world view changes from affirmative to antagonistic.
             In the beginning of the play Antigone and Creon have conflicting point of views. Antigone believes no law is justifiable where family is prohibited from helping each other and Creon believes that the government sets the laws and they are not to be broken under any circumstances. After Creon announced that Polynices was not to be buried, Antigone knew that Creon was being unfair and she didn't want to risk her integrity by allowing her brother's corpse to rot so she decided to go through with it. I realized that Antigone would rather be caught burying her brother and sentenced to death than living in regret for the rest of her life because she wasn't loyal to her family when she said, "No one will ever convict me for a traitor."(57.) I think this shows how courageous she is and that she won't give up on something even if it could kill her. This is also important to society because everyone in Thebes was afraid to stand up to Creon because he was the King, but Antigone stood up to his laws because she believed they were unjust.
