Gender Specific Cartoon Analysis

Adjusting to the life of a princess was not at all easy for Sofia, as she realized that she was no longer to act as she would while living as a commoner, but now she was expected to walk, talk and even dance like a princess. Now, although this cartoon is geared toward little girls, there were also little boys present, a great number of them. These boys were princes and were used to help illustrate what a princess should expect from her prince. Things such as courtesy and respect toward the little princesses were shown. There was a scene where Sofia dropped her book in class and all the little boys ran over to help her; of course she was surprised, but also pleased by this. Respect and manners of course were not only practiced by the boys, but most of all by the girls. They exercised the words please and thank you whenever necessary and also offered a helping hand if needs be. Despite the fact that they were to be pleasant to everyone, there was one individual who had a hard time doing so. One of the princesses named Olivia behaved as though everyone were obligated to her but her not to them. She was very poised but behaved irrationally about things that occurred and expected her little posse to follow along. This illustrates what a child can also expect from individuals they meet. It lets them understand that even though good manners and courtesy toward others should be the practiced norm of their environment, they will come across someone who utilizes the complete opposite.
There was an episode called "The Princess Test" and it focused on who knew all that it took to be a princess. They were tested on how to dance, curtsy, their gown flow and how to fan like princesses. What was interesting about this episode was finding out what the really important thing about being a princess was; kindness. They were all tested by one of the fairies disguised as an old librarian who needed help carrying some books back to her house.
