Oedipus the King

The people backing this philosophy were called Atomic Theorist and had the theory that every thing happened at random and had nothing to do with religion.
The story Oedipus the king was somewhat of a warning of how people were beginning to think about religion and science. In a conversation between Oedipus and Jucuasta, it is said by Jucuasta that prophesy is nonsense and that there is no divine order. The character of Oedipus is a composite of Protagorous, Hippocrates, and Heratodus. These men were all great thinkers and all of them had a big impact on the way people thought. Protagorous said that man is the measure of all things. This meant that he believes that all things should be compared to man instead of God when determining the degree of excellence. Hippocrates was a smart man who came up with diagnosis and medicine ruling out healing through faith. Heratodus wrote the history of the Persian Wars and this was important because the story revolves around his actions.
Unfortunately the ancient world did not restore values but instead embraced Aristotelian materialism just as the modern world has.
From the 19th century to the present the ideas of four thinkers illustrate clearly the rise of materialism and the decline of religion. The first of the four thinkers is Charles Darwin (1809-1882). Darwin among other things was a naturalist and a priest in the Church of England. Because of his strong interest in biology Darwin examined many different species of animals. Charles Darwin was a highly educated man and he used this education to write two important works. These works were the Origin of Species (1559) and Decent of Man (1870). .
Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) was a German Philosopher who like Darwin had strong ties with the church being that his father was a Lutheran minister. Friedrich once said that God is dead and in his work Thus Spake Zarathustra (1883) he said that men of superior ability are the ones best suited to lead towards a moral and ethical world.
