Biography of Benjamin Banniker


            Benjamin Banneker was an African American that invented many products and practices that we still employ today. He walked and worked among our Founding Fathers, and paved the way for many African Americans that have contributed to the adaptation of the political, social, and economic structures within the United States. Although these contributions were recorded, his name was not mentioned in the American History Books until later in life. In examining these truths, of some historical events, his contributions were not mentioned along with our Founding Fathers, yet he was present. That is why this paper is written, to reveal his inspiring presence during the colonial period and to mention some historical events. .
             When it comes to the theory of any particular enlightenment, we cannot overlook the accomplishments of Benjamin Banneker, because his inventions and theories have contributed to the adaptation of the political, social, and economic structures within the United States. Not only were his contributions necessary, but they are still a driving force in the world today.
             Benjamin Banneker was born in 1731 to the daughter of a former indentured slave, an African American woman named Molly Walsh, who emigrated from England and was in bondage for seven years. When her bondage ended, she bought a farm and two slaves, in Baltimore County, Maryland. Eventually she freed her slaves and married one of them named Bannaky. They had several children, one of whom, Mary who also grew up and bought a farm, and bought a slave, Robert, whom she later freed and married. Mary and Robert lived on the family farm and bore Benjamin Bannaky along with several other children. Benjamin grew up under the tutelage of his Mother and Grandmother. He learned to read from the bible that his grandmother read to him. When it opened, he attended a Quaker school in the community they lived in. School learning came quite easily to him, particularly math and writing.
