Elizabeth Smart- Runaway or Kidnapped?

Elizabeth Smart disappeared June 5, 2002 from her Federal Heights home in the middle of the night. That is the only known truth of the entire ordeal. The story plays like a "Movie of the Week" seen on Lifetime Network, so it is no surprise that the family has hired an entertainment lawyer, a book has been published, people have been fired, a man's reputation was destroyed as he went to his grave, and brainwashing is involved. Let's not forget the reward money and the political aspirations of her father, Ed Smart.
It is sad that a little girl was taken from her "safe" home and the parents call their religious leader before calling the police. It is sad that a little girl disappeared from her "safe" home and her sister can't remember if the guy had a knife or a gun. It is sad that a little girl is gone from her "safe" home and the public doubts that it was really a kidnapping. What does this say about the Nation as a whole, that we would question whether a little girl was kidnapped or not. .
What is pathetic is that the family released pictures of Elizabeth at age 9; she was 14 when she disappeared. Her sister waits 2-3 hours before telling her parents that she has been taken. The police become single-minded in their suspect; Richard Ricci. The cover-up at the Tribune started day 1. Even the Federal Bureau of Investigation is not immune to scandal. One might ask, "What is so special about this little girl that would garner so much publicity?" That is indeed the question, but am I the only one curious?.
A reporter in Tallahassee, Florida, Leo Sandon, wrote an article in the Tallahassee Democrat blaming the Mormon religion for Elizabeth's abduction. He states that the practice of plural marriages is what drove Brian Mitchell to want to take another wife and another reporter cited that Elizabeth was rebelling against her family's religious practices so she went with him willingly. Some say she was brainwashed.
